Sue reflects on 37 years at Puretech

When Sue joined Puretech in November 1988 as a Subcontract Administrator, she could never have imagined she would still be part of the business 37 years later.

Her original role involved managing subcontract payments for both companies and labour providers, but over the years her responsibilities evolved significantly. Alongside her administrative duties, Sue found herself taking charge of the company’s growing fleet of cars and vans, a role she says arrived “by default” as the business expanded.

The company was small when she started. “There were only six people working for Medical Gases, including the two Directors,” she recalls.

“Compared to the 43 there are now, it really shows how the company has gone from strength to strength over the years.”

Throughout her career, Sue worked part-time, enjoying the flexibility and mutual trust that Puretech offered. “It suited me down to the ground,” she says.

Looking back, Sue has witnessed enormous changes in both the company and the wider business world. When she started, computers were not part of everyday office life. “All we had were word processors, and everything went by fax,” she recalls. Today, she notes, processes are far more regulated and structured than they once were.

Over nearly four decades, Sue has seen Puretech move premises four times, navigate company name changes, adapt to technological revolutions and even steer through a global pandemic. When asked what advice she would give to others for the longevity she achieved, Sue highlights the importance of building relationships. “Get involved, form friendships with your colleagues and take part in social events. It helps build strong working relationships and makes work more enjoyable.”

Now retiring, Sue is looking forward to a new chapter. A house move will keep her busy, while travel plans are also on the horizon.

After 37 years of dedication, Sue leaves behind a remarkable legacy and a wealth of memories from a company that has changed dramatically since the eighties.

Commenting on Sue’s retirement, Gary Littlewood, Managing Director at Puretech, and who has been with the company since 1984, said:

“Reaching 37 years of service is an incredible achievement and a testament to Sue’s loyalty, dedication and professionalism. Throughout her time with Puretech, Sue has been a constant and reliable presence, supporting the business through periods of growth, change and challenge.

On behalf of everyone at Puretech, I would like to thank Sue for her outstanding contribution over nearly four decades. We wish her a long, happy and well-deserved retirement and every success in this exciting new chapter of her life.”
