Celebrating five years of progress

This June marks five years since Chris Myburgh joined Puretech. His dedication and growth over this time have made a real impact on the company.

Chris came to Puretech straight after completing his apprenticeship in fabrication, welding, and sheet metal. He started out on the workshop floor, spending his first two and a half years learning the ropes in pipe fitting and welding.

“My role has probably changed more than anyone else’s in the company,” Chris explains. “I joined to learn the pipe fitting and welding side of the business, and then an opportunity came up in logistics and stores.”

Even though Chris had no background in procurement, he took on the challenge. With support from Puretech, he earned his CIPS Level 3 procurement qualification and moved up to become Logistics, Procurement, and Stores Manager.

Now, Chris leads a small but vital team that keeps all of Puretech’s UK sites stocked and running smoothly. Sometimes, they handle up to twenty sites at once.

“If an emergency comes up, it lands on my desk,” says Chris. “Whether something has broken or needs replacing, it’s my job to get the right thing, in the right place, at the right time.”

It’s a big responsibility. If a key part is delayed, entire site teams could be left waiting.

“If I don’t get it right, you could have between one and 25 engineers standing on site, unable to work.”

Over time, Chris has found that communication is his most valuable skill.

“The biggest thing I’ve learned is people skills. I deal with everyone in the company, from drivers to Directors, and I treat everyone the same.”

His role also requires a detailed understanding of customer requirements, particularly during urgent breakdown situations.

“A part might be called one thing in Scotland and something completely different in the South. It’s down to me to understand exactly what they need and make sure it gets there.”

“I like that every day is different. There’s a real sense of achievement in knowing you’re keeping things moving.”

Chris has also significantly improved Puretech’s purchasing efficiency. By reviewing long-standing supplier arrangements, he has identified substantial cost savings.

“The savings can be massive. Sometimes things have been bought the same way for years, and it just takes a fresh pair of eyes.”

Chris thinks Puretech stands out because it invests in its people.

“There aren’t many companies like Puretech that treat you so well. They support you, they invest in your development, and they give you opportunities to progress.”

As Chris marks five years at Puretech, he continues to play a key role in keeping everything running smoothly and efficiently.

Commenting on Chris’s contribution to the business, Dennis Pye said: “Chris has made a brilliant contribution to Puretech over the past five years. His progression from the workshop to leading our logistics, procurement, and stores function is a testament to his hard work, adaptability, and determination to learn.

Chris has also demonstrated a real eye for improving efficiency and reducing costs, while maintaining strong relationships across every part of the business. We are incredibly grateful for his commitment and look forward to seeing his continued success at Puretech.”
